He certainly was a tall glass of Milk.

On Saturday, it was the hottest day that Melbourne has ever seen. 47 degrees Celsius with this very pleasant hot wind that felt like hell had opened up and engulfed us all. I did the only thing plausible for such a hot day, I went to the movies. I'd like to apologise to James Blake for my brief one day affair with James Franco. I am sure he won't be able to forgive me and I have no excuse, but...

I am sorry, James.

I went and saw Milk. Maybe its because it happened before my time, maybe I am just ignorant, or maybe I should have been taught American History sometime during my years as a student in America but I knew nothing about Harvey Milk or Prop 6. I can't really review the movie for you as I was wooed by the big three: Sean Penn (hot), James Franco (a slice of yum), and Diego Luna (Da-amn). However, as the credits closed I felt belittled for not doing more about Prop 8 and disappointed that California is still struggling with a slightly different but the same basic rights issue thirty years later.

I met a Californian whose lived in Australia most of his life and asked him if he was voting in the elections and if he was voting on Prop 8 in November. He stared at me blankly as I quickly began explaining the issue and tried to emphasise how important it was for him to vote. I haven't seen him since but his blase attitude towards the presidential elections leads me to believe he didn't vote on Prop 8 either. I should have done more.

Yesterday, I struggled to find the words to express the helplessness, the disappointment, and most of all the hope that I feel in California's struggle to protect the rights of its people and to set a standard for the rest of the country. When the Yellaphant read my mind (Bridget how did you do it!?) and posted this:
