Here comes the sun...AND PUPPIES

A few days ago, Cammy from Classroom Confessions gave me an award! Thank you Cammy! It definitely brought some sunniness into my day! As you can tell by all the exclamation marks! Yay! Awards! Yay! I am humbled to know that you think I am funny - although I am not sure what blog you've been reading the last few weeks with the whining and the sad. But thank you so much!

I thought I'd take a moment to apologise. Now, I am a bad bloggy friend. I am. See, I don't follow anyone. Not a single person. I don't even use a feed reader, but have an old school tab in firefox with a list of blogs on it that I read. There are two ways to get on the list: 1. I have to enjoy your writing so much that I check your blog daily in the hopes you've posted or 2. You've spent the time to comment on my blog a few times and thus I like to return the favour and then I get invested in your life and suddenly your blog is stuck with me as a reader. oh wait, 3. Post pictures of puppies - I am a sucker for puppies. Actually let's just look at a puppy for second, just to you know, frolic in their cuteness.

That's a puggle which is a pug and beagle cross and possibly the cutest thing ever. I stole this picture shamelessly from these people's blog - which to be fair I found just now searching for Puggle pictures on google, but I must give credit where credit is due. PUPPIES. Puppy tummies are adorable and round and soft. And, Inspector Climate when are we getting a dog? Is tomorrow too soon?

Wow. Apologies, what were we talking about? Oh yeah, following. So, here's the thing, I realise a lot few people follow in the hopes of getting followed. And perhaps, I'd have way more followers if I did this (I just lost one today. RIP follower, where'd you go?). In fact, I even hemmed or hawed over whether I should HAVE the follower thing on my blog. As it turns out, it is great because I get to go explore your blogs sometimes. Have I rambled enough about following? Have I said following enough?

So, I thought I would give this award to thank people who follow me. It makes me so happy to see your little avatar on my blog and your comments make my day. I appreciate you! I do. Really.

So...

Guilty of Gossip - She's up on the goss, plus she's funny.
Owen from Magic Lantern Show - I love the photos on this blog. I do! I do.
Aura from Life is But a Dream - Aura was one of my first followers, I love her smiling avatar.
Tuppeny Tales - I love reading about her dating (mis)adventures!
Dominick from Go Coug-sars - pretty much single-handedly made me watch the Hurt Locker. Thanks for that!
Very Bored in Catalunya - She may be bored, but her blog is not at all boring.
The Zadge from Blue Skies & Yellow Dogs - She left me a comment a few days ago about my horse Mel...which made me cry - in a good way. In a SHE GET'S it way.
Jessica from La Fin Dumond Farm - She works magic with bread. Bread I can't even eat - but oh Moses, I wish I could.

These are some of my people. Thank you for following me and making my days Sunny. And thanks for Cammy, again, for the award! (I think there were ACTUALLY rules for the award - something like thank and link the person who gave it to you, give it to 12ish people, tell them about it on their blog, you know the usual!).

ACK! Updated to add: After the VERY first comment on this post (Hi OC Fun Blog!) I realised that my little rant on following makes it seems like I assume everyone who follows just wants to get followed back. Which is not what I meant. I was inarticulately (per usual) saying that I would probably have more followers if I followed people myself. I think this is mostly projection in that if I followed people I'd feel like I was putting them out because they might possibly feel like they should follow me. What I am really getting at here is I am sorry that I don't follow - but I want you to know that those of you who follow me, read me, comment on decoybetty, are all greatly appreciated.

Anyone else have issues with following? Is this just me? Why do you follow?

  1. I agree and disagree at the same time with followers if that is possible:) I follow because I am interested alothough I don't knock following to show support (I do this too) because this is what most of the groups I belong to, and have helped me reach viewers in my chosen niche area, have done for me. As a return courtesy, I follow them. I have never un-followed anyone because they have not followed me I would consider that a keeping score but sometimes people need to do what makes them feel justified. At teh end of the day they are the ones going to bed with the angst over the un-following. lol Oh well. Congrats on your award! I have found your blog through SITS:) Have a great week.

  2. I'm old school like you with the blogs I read in a list in my Favorites. I read a lot of blogs but I don't comment on all of them all the time and I'm not offended if they don't comment back. As far as following goes, I don't follow because it requires me to create a google account.

And yeah to all the winners.

  3. LOL; to follow or not to follow, that is the question.
    Do what works.
Having a puppy on your post; OMG I'M GOING TO DIE!!! Cute overload. Love, love, love their warm little bellies that smell like puppy love.
If I could have had puppies instead of kids, I probably would have.

And thank you for the award :) Once I get an oven I'll work on that bread. I've been talking to my chef just for the gluten free readers. Soon.

  6. Hey! It's Saint Patrick's day where you are! Shamrock shimmy!

I think I started following you for two reasons. I noticed you thoughtful comments on other blogs that I read, and I believe I may have added you when someone else gave you an award. This is how I find most of the blogs I read.

As for the feature of following, I read most blogs in google reader and I like the quick-clickity- click functionality in Blogger's default header bars. I'd even go so far as to say that I'm more inclined to follow a blogger blog than a wordpress blog because I'm lazy and it's a one-click process.

You have just made a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day much, much better. In fact, you have the honour of giving me my very first blog award! Yay you! Yay me! Thank you!

  7. I don't follow anyone but I did have a link to blogs so I could read ones that I reguarly read when they are updated. When I changed my blog name I lost the list so I just link through other peoples blogs to my favs. I like reading expat blogs especially those of us living in France. But, I like yours because you are a foreigner in Australia. I find it interesting to read about your experiences in Aussie because it is *cough, cough* similar to NZ (my home country).

*I don't like to openly admit the similarities between NZ and Aussie because of our rivalry! Don't get me started on people confusing our accents which are SO different... although my British Boyf can't tell the diference, poor boy.

  8. OC Fun Blogs - Thanks for stopping by!

linlah - Woohoo, an old school sistah!

Jessica - Um, yes, if i could have puppies instead of kids...I'd probably decide to have kids. As it is, I am not a huge fan of the concept. (PUPPY BELLY - ahem, be cool).

    The Zadge - Your welcome!

Skye - I know, I know. I think about it sometimes. But eh.

Tuppence - Your so very welcome! ;)

Aura - Yay! I popped your award cherry...Or something.

Kiwi in France - as someone who has been to New Zealand, I am keenly aware of some of the difference. I have a hard time telling the accents apart if the Kiwi has been in Australia for a while (but then again, sometimes I have hard time telling Brits from Aussies if they've been in Australia for a while...embarrassing but true!).

  9. I'm so glad you wrote this! It's a thrill to stumble across a funny blog and say "Wow, I REALLY like how this person resonates with me"!

I think "like bloggers" attract "like bloggers", which makes it so fun to discover new friends. Glad to have discovered your blog and your love of cheese!

  10. Hi Deirdre... so many thanks for this kindest of blog gifts... very much appreciated...

I have very mixed feelings about following... genuine interest versus lust for reciprocity in order to boost one's own number of followers hoping to explode the counters and effortlessy rise into the stratosphere of blogging and get named a blog of note by Blogger and go viral and become famous... or is more out of total self delusion... voila some of my mixed feelings. I sign up to follow less and less these days, mainly out of interest. I admit, I whored around for a while when I first started blogging, as in shameless self promotion, and received in return a fair number of followers, but I don't think it means much finally, because I certainly have far from that number of visitors on any given post...

Anyway, thanks again for mentionning my humble little blog, that is better than following any day !

And have fun camping out... wherever... especially in orange !
