Last night, Inspector Climate and I were cuddling on the couch watching tv. The Mentalist came on and about half way through it, Inspector Climate asked me if I wanted to go to bed. And I hesitated.

Now, if you know me at all, you know that if it's past about 8:30 pm I will not be hesitating to go to sleep. It's a struggle for me to stay awake past 8:30 - 9 on a good night. Later when we were bed trying to get to sleep and my mind was full of not that pleasant day dreams I confessed this: I don't watch crime shows. But if for some reason I've started to watch one, I stay up to watch the whole thing because I need to know that the case is closed, the bad guy caught, the story is over, otherwise, I get nightmares.

Why yes, I am 25 years old and TV shows scare me. No really.

In fact, I've pretty much always been scared of movies and tv shows - anything visual. I'd watch it on TV and know that later when I was trying to get to sleep my mind would relive those moments and then creatively expand on to them until it came to my untimely death and demise. Or even the untimely death and demise of a character. I could not handle it. I've bucked up a bit as I've gotten older. But I've had to start following some simple rules.

1. Don't watch half of an episode or movie.
2. If possible don't watch scary things in your own house. Then when you leave you can shut the door on the scary thing walk away and lock in the place you watched it forever.
3. Close your eyes. A lot. It's ok wimpy.
4. No really, it's ok to be a wuss. I promise.

Anything scare you?

  1. I am the same way! I try so hard not to watch those types of shows (Crminal Minds, Law and Order) but they are usually the only shows on right before bed. I like your tips! I cannot sleep without seeing the end of the show either.

  2. Oh man, I love crime shows, but after watching a Law and Order: SVU marathon, my mind goes crazy and I am always secretly convinced I am going to get raped. Those shows make you think of the nuttiest scenarios.

  3. Jill - what's with the comedy's on early in the evening and then crime shows on CONSTANTLY. I say no.

Teacher Girl - I am afraid someone will climb into my window or break down my door...

  4. I don't watch or read anything that is going to greatly upset me so, I never watch scary movies or TV news.
