Decoybetty turns 7!

Today marks the seventh anniversary of Decoybetty. Yes, I started this blog in 2003 when I was a first year at college.

Not much has changed, I still write about my feelings. While then I was struggling to find a major, a career, friends, and a place where I am comfortable enough to be. Now, I am struggling to find a job that fulfills my career goals and aims (and visa obligations!), I struggle to connect to friends who live on opposite sides of the world from me and sometimes just across the city, I struggle to be the best version of me at possible moments. Because don't we all?

You'd think that 7 years on, I'd feel different that 18 year old Decoybetty. I'd feel like lessons had been learned and achievements ... um... achieved. But most days, I feel like I'm a discoverer - wait a tic, that's not what I mean...an explorer? Adventurer? Ship Captain? - just solving riddles to figure out how I work and why I do what I do.

Those riddles have brought me to new and exciting places. Who would have thought that I am more at home in Australia than I ever felt in America? And who would have guessed that living with a total stranger in Melbourne would be the place I've lived longest in my adult life?

As I come closer to discovering all that I can be and am, I've been able to open myself up to new people and experiences. I wrote in this post on how I wouldn't have liked Inspector Climate when he was 18 - which of course I am sure I would have liked him, as a friend. But the truth is, I wouldn't have allowed him to get any where near me either. He's what I've been waiting my whole life for, and while I was manically rushing to get here, tapping my fingers wondering what was taking him so long, I should have just sat back and relaxed. Because ya'll, growing up can't and shouldn't be rushed.

Thanks for reading while I've bumbled through growing up. It's not over yet, so stay tuned for the next segment of discovery. I am not sure what it'll be, but I am sure it'll be awesome.

  8. yay for 7 years! That's like 50 years in the bloggersphere. It's amazing how much can change in that period of time eh? I've had my blog for 5 years, and in that time I've moved to France, got married, taken in a cat and a dog and travelled to more places than I ever dreamed I would.

Here's to happiness and excitement and awesome jobs in the next 7 years!!

  12. Dude, 7 years. So you've basically been around since blogs were invented.

I've been blogging for longer than that, but I've switched blogs and deleted them so many times I can't even remember. I've had the current blog since 2007 so that's pretty record breaking for me.
