Today Krysten is sharing some excellent blogging tips.
I've been blogging for a really long time, since 2001. 10 years. The blog world has changed so much since then and so has my blogging style. My current blog has been around since 2007 and it amazes me how far it has come and how far I've come as well.
I've been called a blogging celebrity, which can be a little embarrassing. I certainly don't think that of myself! But I appreciate all the readers I have and it amazes me every day that so many people want to know about me and my life. A lot of people ask me how on earth my blog has become so popular and today I'm going to share with you all some of my blogging secrets.
Krysten's Secrets to a Successful Blog
- Comment – If someone leaves a comment on your blog, comment back. The way I see it, if someone it taking time out of their day to read your blog then you should take time to do the same thing. There are days when I get over 100 comments on a post and I make sure to return each of them.
- Social Media – I tell you what, when Twitter first came on the scene it sounded insanely lame. But these days I adore tweeting back and forth with my blog friends and readers. For me it's personal and part of my blog. I let people know about giveaways, I tweet about my day, I ask for advice and I give advice. It's a good way to get your name out to not just new readers but to companies as well.
- Find A Schedule – Losing my job in early 2010 might just have been the best thing to ever happen to my blog because it helped me to find a blogging schedule. I was so bored being at home that I started blogging every day. These days I still post every day (although I may start taking weekends off) and I schedule my posts for a certain time each day. Readers know what to expect from me and I think that's a good thing.
- Be You – This is the most important secret and without it I just don't think a blogger can be successful. Don't lie. Don't pretend to be someone you aren't. Be real. Sure, I do giveaway posts and memes but I also make sure to post about me and my life – the good, the bad and the ugly. I've gone through a job loss, loss of friends, loss of a marriage and I've posted about it all. I want readers to know ME and because of this I've found some really great friends through shared experiences. People want to find someone they can relate to and the most relatable you can be is by being real.
Blogging is such an important part of my life and I love this world. Hopefully my words can find my way to YOU and something I've said can strike you in the way that other bloggers have hit me.
