This is why you're my people...

At my job they're a big fan of "getting to know you" games which immediately if you're me sends up a red flag that the human knot might be right around the corner. And I don't know about you, but I hate the human knot. The human knot has never been fun. You either get people who are A. bored and just don't want to do it, and thus cheat or B. are so incredibly INSISTENT THAT YOU PLAY THE GAME THE RIGHT WAY that it's horrible C. With your hand in between a stranger's legs.

Not fun.

Luckily, the human knot has never made an appearance at my job, yet.  However, a few days ago we did have to play "a game" where we thought of groups of people who were "our people." Now this is a game that I can get behind - because man do I like my people and dislike my non-people (in general, I think it's fair to say, I'm a non-people person).

Here is a bit of a list of my people:

My people are not sock people - and by that I mean, they are people who don't like socks. I have nothing against those that like sock puppet-people or people made of socks (although I also wouldn't classify either group as my people.

My people are blogging people.

My people see climate change as "the threat we face" and not as "that thing scientists are making up to steal my money."

My people have an awareness about the food they eat.

My people enjoy baked goods (either baking them or eating them).

My people adore animals.

My people are not Drinking to get Drunk people.

And my people write because they have too much to say.

Who are your people?

  1. Love This post, almost as much as I hate getting to know you games.. And I was a camp counsellor, which means I've played far too many in my time!!
My people are the kind who bake and sew, or at least appreciate those who do. My people read books and talk about what they learned from them ( hopefully more than Bella loves Edward like soo much), my people watch world news and not celebrity apprentice. My peole are open minded, they are tolerant and caring.
Sadly, there's not many of my people in this little town.

  2. my people are picnic in the park people.
and definitely barefoot, playing in the mud people

  3. I love this post and may have to steal the idea. But my people love family, sports, are sarcastic and thoughtful, and think sweats are one of life's great inventions. :)

  4. I've done lots of those getting to know you games when I was at uni. It was done in the tutorial and I always found them quite strange.

My people are creative, writers and readers. But so much more than that too :)

  5. I think we are from the same people. As long as your people also get excited about hard rubbish. My people really love finding something awesome that has been discarded on someone else's nature strip and giving it a new life.

  6. My people are basically your people. Except that they're in favour of socks. And there's more Doctor Who involved ;)

  7. Oh the human knot, I had forgot about this game, I haven't played since I was in high school. My people are people who strive for happiness and strive to be good people, everything else falls into place after that.

  8. i love this post!! i think your people and my people are the same and the one haha loves blogging and loves animals!!!

  9. Who ARE my people. My people are dinner party people. My people are crafty, coffee drinking people. My people are sitting in the sun with a beer people. My people are summer people!

  10. Such a great way to get to know people. Mine are very similar to yours, except they do love socks :) Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog earlier- following you now via GFC x

  11. This is a fantastic post and made me think a bit about who "my people" might be. Thanks! I can't stand the get-to-know-you games particularly if they equate to "If you were an animal what would you be?"

  12. I looks forward to the day you stumble across a human knot at work (one in which you aren't participating, of course.) That said, your people sound like my people! I like a little bit more. :P

  13. My people are hopeless romantic people.
My people are driven and passionate.
    My people are caring.

I love this post!!! So much fun to read about what "your people" are like :) Happy Monday!

  14. My people are Disney people. My people are summer people. My people are family people. My people are someone like you. Love the post!

I'd add - my people are positive people who try to see the good in situations.

  16. My people are a lot like your people. I'll have my people call your people and we'll set something up ;)

  17. Ugh I HATE getting to know you games. I think that's why I always hated traditional universities, because the first day of class always seemed to involved getting to know you games.

  18. Love this!! I am "your" people, except with the sock part. I sort of love socks, but I am so with you on everything else. My people blog without pants on and eat too much chocolate, and probably also love coffee. =)

  19. I am My People.

Er, I mean, I'm your people.

It's been a while, huh?! Saw your comment the other day, thanks! Had quite the hiatus there for a while due to moving craziness...and so unforch wasn't keeping up with a lot of blogs, yours included.

Congrats on the job (yay!) and sorry to hear you've been feeling scheisse since the surgery but happy you're on the mend and no doubt things will only improve from here on out.

  20. haha I love the human knot...but only with people I kinda know.

  21. Your people are my people. Btw, I HATE socks! I prefer to run around town barefooted, literally.

  22. What a great post! I think my people vary, but then again I am an introvert so I can handle anyone as long as I get some alone time every now and then.

I don't like people who drain the life out of you with their problems all of the time, or gossip all the time about others. No negative energy please :)

  23. I hate those games. I have to think the worst is where you all make a HUGE circle and sit down on the person's lap behind you. Can anyone say gross? I always get some creepy dude.

  24. I don't understand the "drinking-to-get-drunk" generation. And it seems to be prevalent everywhere I go these days. Love this :)

  25. I love, love this. I'm flagging it for possibly theft.

Man, I hate socks. Really badly. I wear sandals so much, and am barefoot so much more. Socks just make me itchy.

  26. at all the blogging conferences I go to there are those speed dating things.

    I despise them.

If we could do it ONLINE it would be way betterer.

    YOU are my people.

  27. Kate - getting to know you games are bad. Really really really bad.

Morgan - Picnic in the park people are the best!

    E - Please steal it!

Gracie - They're awful. Absolutely awful.

Belinda - those ALSO sound like my people.

Melbourne on mind - Crazy sock people. I've yet to watch doctor who, but hear good things :)

Megan - Ahh, good people! ;)

    Lisa - Aw, yay animals!

Strings and buttons - Aw, thank you! All you sock lovers.

Laughing mom - Getting to know you games are bad. Really bad.

Ti - I'm sure that day is right around the corner, seriously they LOVE getting to know you games.

Amanda - I love hopeless romantics.

    poptartyogini - Aw, thank you!

    carynlevyonline - Yay! Good one!

Crystal - YES. We definitely need to get our people in contact :)

    Krysten - They're awful aren't they?

Teachergirl - Wait a second, there are people who blog WITH pants on?

    Pretzel Thief - HAH!

Meme and he - Really? I've never met anyone who enjoys the human knot?

Nicole - THANK YOU! Socks are the devil.

Sara - I'm totally an introvert too.

Sara - I have never even heard of this game, and it sounds completely ridiculous and awful.

    Azra - I know right?

Lor - STEAL IT. Ahem. I mean, go ahead.

Kelley - Really? Speed dating at a blogging conference? That sounds awful.

  28. I loved this post! My people are blogging people. My people are book reading people. My people are traveling people.

Speaking to climate change, this is what's happening in Fiji ( Countries in the Pacific are actually facing/dealing/living with the effects of climate change already :(
