It may be unusual to write a post surveying the year past when no anniversary exists here. It is not my birthday or Inspector Climate's. It is not a new year or a celebration of our relationship.
No, April has no significance at all except that I feel so much has happened since last April that if I don't sit down and take it all in it'll seem - fragmented. I can't believe it has only been a year, I feel like a life time has gone by. And yet today, I walked around the streets of my old 'hood and it felt not all that long ago that I shopped at that Coles and took that tram and rode that train line.
Time is forever fascinating - it's impossible for me to judge how long or short I'll perceive time. Will work go by in a flash? Or will the day crawl by? Will this week be an eternity or will I think it's Friday before it's even begun? September seems like it could be tomorrow, but my August birthday couldn't be further away.
And so April 2011 began with:
My parents came to visit and I told them that Inspector Climate and I planned on moving in together.
I got a job.
We started looking for apartments.
We found one. We moved in in July.
We planned a trip to Vanuatu.
I visited the ER for extreme and unknown pains in my lower abdomen.
My job ended.
I turned 26 and got engaged on the same day no less!
I got a new job.
We set a date for our "getting married ceremony."
We got married in November.
My job ended.
We went to Vanuatu.
We went to the US.
I got my dream job.
I scheduled surgery.
There was birth (I did not partake) - I knitted a sweater for it (every piece took...A. Long. Time).
I started my new job.
I had surgery.
There was death.
And now new flags are pinned at new important times: our wedding in September which of course coincides with a trip to America where I'll meet new/old friends (What's up Kyle! Hola Seba - My Spanish doesn't go much further than this...). May - when Inspector Climate will begin his PhD and leave his current job.
It's been a big year.
