You can check out part 2 of our wedding: the ceremony, here. After the ceremony, we quickly adjourned to the tent (don't get me started on the tent), where nibblies were being served. We laughed we talked, we crowded around the heater.
Inspector Climate and I stole away with Kyle and Brittany (our wonderful and fearless photographers) for some couply shots. The way we had planned the day originally was to have these before the ceremony, but do to some things out of our control: a slow hair dresser and rain. We settled for a twenty minute shoot around my parents' farm and my home town.
These for example were taken near my dad's workshop and shed. My one regret here is that Inspector Climate and I do this thing when we're cold (as I'm sure many couples do?), but I ask to "get into" his coat. So he unzips/unbuttons his coat and I snuggle inside of it while he wraps his coat around the both of us. Why didn't we get a picture of it? I have no idea.
I'm so incredibly smitten with this next one! Inspector Climate thinks I look psychotic. But I think I look a bit smolder-y (if I do say so myself. Which I do).
And so then, here we are on my driveway. Surrounded by trees and devastation from a wind storm earlier in the summer. In most of these shots, Kyle had directed us to look straight in front of us, but I always ended up looking at her, I think I was just so excited to see her, in the flesh! It was like if I looked away she'd disappear.
My home town is wee. With only a few hundred people in it, it only has one claim to fame really: A covered bridge. Inspector Climate and I had joked about getting our photos taken there, but the more we joked about it, the more I wanted them. So we quickly hopped in a car and drove to "down town."
While we were getting our photos taken and dodging the "traffic" (Like three cars went by, it was not like that when I was growing up), one of the vehicles drove through the bridge once, and then turned around to drive through it again - oh leaf peepers - and rolled down the window and a guy leaned out and said "I don't know whether to say congratulations or not." First of all, what does that even mean? If you're not going to say congratulations, why say anything at all? Anyhoo - I love that bridge. And I love that we have some photos of us in it.
But now, to the best part. The Cake. And I'm skipping dinner because well, it was one of the sore spots of the wedding. Much of my family is vegetarian as am I, and if there was one thing I wanted (besides Kyle at our wedding) was ... a totally gluten free vegetarian wedding. I wanted to be able to eat EVERYTHING without even thinking about. This is not what happened. The caterer in fact seemed surprised that the vegetarian food went so fast - there were NO leftovers, however, HEAPS of meat leftovers. Le sigh. Anyway, the food was delicious.
But the cake. Oh. The cake.
Inspector Climate and I knew right from the get go what kind of cake we wanted. We wanted a lemon cake with raspberries in between the layers and vanilla butter cream. It was...phenomenal! So much YUM!
No one prepared me for how hard it would be to cut the cake and get enough out without ruining it to feed each other...we ended up carving a little hole? Is that how it's supposed to be done? Anyway, The cake. Holy moly. Good.
Then there was some time for a few more cuddles.
A few days before the wedding, my brother had found some fireworks in his room that were about 20 years old. And so as it got dark, we lit a bonfire, and some fireworks. They were only a bit dangerous and nearly killed Kyle, but all in the name for a photo right? I guess? (not this photo, I just liked this one).
The next day, Kyle came by to shoot a couple of photos with our horses (seriously, she could not be more sweet!). It was one of the shots that we'd wanted to get the day before but didn't have time and also, dress! Horses! Bad. I spent the morning giving them a bit of a brush. I in particular wanted photos with the horse on the left because we've had him since I was 6. He's a year older than I am and while still fairly healthy, I just couldn't miss an opportunity to get some fab photos with him before, well you know. The other horses couldn't help themselves and did a lot of photo bombing.
I've saved my absolute favourite for last. I'm so in love with this photo, I didn't even realise we were being photographed. We were just talking about the day, looking out the window of the covered bridge.
On my life list is to be photographed by Kyle Hepp. Check!
So that's it folks. That was our second wedding. We're now planning our third, kidding!
Which photo is your favourite?
The one in the trees would look amazing blown up on a canvas.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of having some extra pictures the day after the wedding! We have our venue for 2.5 days... it would be perfect to have pictures the day before, the day of, and the day after as well!
ReplyDeleteYou guys are so obviously in love, it's wonderful! I adore the picture in the covered bridge, and you definitely look "smolder-y"!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ruby...some of those tree photos need to be blown up HUGE. Although I'm not sure they have the same effect on you as they do on us since you mentioned the wind storm & that it is not quite how you remember it.
ReplyDeleteBesides that, I'm with you. That last one is PERFECTION. Isn't it kinda funny that with all the pictures taken of you on that one day, the one you like best was completely candid? My fave wedding shot of us is the same, totally spontaneous and totally US.
Thanks for sharing these with us. I freakin love wedding photos.
they're just wonderful. that is all. :]
ReplyDeleteI'm from Vermont and these photos are making me very nostalgic! I love the covered bridge ones and the horses! Kyle (as always) did a great job!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness! Your homeland is very pretty, as are you! I love all your pictures and could never choose a favorite. Congrats again!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THESE!!! (Sorry for the shouting font, but the joy and beauty of the photos requires it!)
ReplyDeleteThat smoldering shot is gorgeous! Also, your cake is making me hungry. In a good (but painful) way. Sounds amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe photos on (in?) the covered bridge are just gorgeous - it was definitely a good choice to follow through on an idea that may have been a joke to start with.
ReplyDeleteYour wedding photos are simply exquisite, beautiful and sentimental. A photograph did a great job capturing all the essence of this wedding. I wish my wedding photos were done this way.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for stopping by my blog and leaving your comment :)I shall return to read more.
The photos are stunning, just stunning!
ReplyDeleteAnd the cake looks gorgeous.
Lovely..Lovely pictures!
ReplyDeleteRecently, I watched Ruby Sparks. When I heard you mention how you guys get so close when you're cold made me think of part of the movie where "calvin" writes how he wants "ruby" to need him more. Next scene she's clinging to him like a wet noodle.
Great Post!
How nice! Lovely photos!
ReplyDeleteMy favorites: the shot by the trees and on the bridge. They are absolutely stunning!! :)

ReplyDeletewow!
ReplyDeletelove your wedding! congratulations!!!
I really like them all too, but I think the first one is my favourite. Black and white photos have a way of tugging at my emotions more than colour ones.
ReplyDeleteCongrats again. Looked like a great day :)
BEAUTIFUL!! I love that last one. Okay, I love all of them.
ReplyDeleteAnd that cake sounds amazing.
