As part of my role as social media person for organisations, I've learned a bit about SEO but have never really considered using it for my own blog because this is a place where I write about feelings. And feelings have no SEO, yo.
But then I read this post by Ashley about SEO. And so, I wanted to check out how people are finding my blog and I'll admit this is mostly for the hilarity factor and not so much about SEO. Although all data is useful data.
Let's look into it, shall we?
Most people who search and find my blog use some term that involves "puppies" in the title.
It could be "puggle puppies" or "cute puppies born in November" which is specific. And hey, I love puppies. (Puppies.)
The other category of people who find my blog are people who are interested in the Australian birthday traditions phenomena of kissing and cake. Birthday traditions are always interesting so I get it, what I don't get is why so many people are googling Birthday Traditions and not just, say, making up their own.
Another large chunk of searches are people who are curious about facial hair. Mostly mustaches and goatees, but also just any other type of facial styles. Their search terms are things like "World's curliest mustache" and "facial hair designs for men" - I'm glad they specified because I will continue to not write about facial hair styles for women.
But my favourites of course are the miscellaneous searches. The ones that just make you gaze into space and wonder what these people were thinking:
- "Alien in her belly sexy" - what do you think the intonation of that was? "Alien in her belly! Sexy!" or "Alien in her belly? Sexy?" or "Alien in her belly!! Sexy?" So many questions.
- "Elastic like rubber belly button"
- "I hate when people with straight hair complain about frizz" - yo, I do hate when people with straight hair complain about frizz! They wouldn't know frizz unless I was standing close by and my frizz wisped them in the face. Apparently, wisp isn't a verb.
- "Ted Mosby Jeans" - This just made me sad, because I don't write about How I Met Your Mother nearly as much as I used to.
