Norfolk Island day 1, part 2

I don't normally wax poetic about the places we stay or the food we eat while on holidays. However, when it comes to Norfolk Island, I think some exceptions must be made. We stayed in the Cascade Garden Apartments on Norfolk Island. It certainly wasn't luxury accommodation, however it did have a well stocked kitchen, a gas stove (which is a luxury for me!), and all the amenities we needed for our long weekend (like beach towels and picnic basket which were both handy since we only brought carry on luggage for our little trip).

However, probably the highlight of staying at the Cascade Garden Apartments was that they had their own chickens which they encouraged you to feed your food scraps to and also to gather the fresh eggs. Every morning I'd make Inspector Climate some fried eggs (yolks super runny) on toast with some red guava which we picked fresh in the owners garden.

I mean, have you ever seen a more excited kid? FRESH EGGS!

The other thing that we should talk about is Dino's. Dino's is not a secret. In fact if you asked any of the locals where you should eat on Norfolk Island they'd probably say Dino's. It's run by a couple who grow the majority of the food for their restaurant on their own property. And the food is spectacular. We dropped in to make a reservation and ask about gluten free vegetarian options and they were absolutely lovely - they won my heart over when a cat came out and greeted us.

I mean check out Inspector Climate's shrimp risotto!

And my roasted vegetable risotto. It was amazing. Seriously amazing.

I think it goes without saying, but this was a not a sponsored hotel stay or a restaurant visit. It was just a great place to stay and SERIOUSLY delicious food - that should be shared, you know?

  8. I seriously could eat eggs everyday! I also like little hole in the wall places and hotels. They force you to make the best of the trip and end up being the best memories

  15. It should always be shared. If everyone on Earth were to just sit down and share an amazing dinner, we would all be to full and content to wage wars, be greedy, or get into religious discussions.

Food is one thing everyone has in common, and we all love it when it makes us feel like we're visiting heaven.
