Today is my 28th birthday. My face is celebrating by growing a forest of pimples in ONE spot on my cheek to remind me what it was like to be 18, which is to say pimply. I guess I'm still young at skin.
I'm celebrating by not thinking about jobs or unemployment today. I went to yoga, cashed in on my free birthday Boost Juice, and later this evening Inspector Climate and I will go out to eat and to see Cavalia.
In the past I've waxed poetic about the year ahead of me, the goals, the dreams, the reality - and honestly I'm look forward to doing so for this auspicious year (28 is the 'auspicious year' right? That's a thing? No? Ok.) in due time. But at the moment, I wanted to thank you for sticking by me this year. While I've been metaphorically drowning in my (albeit very melodramatic) puddle of unemployment, you've been there to rub my back, pick me up, listen to my incessant whinging, and push me along again. So I thought to myeslf, what could I get these beloved readers of mine? And the truth is nothing (see unemployment yada yada yada yada), but if I could, I'd buy you all some of my favourite things.
(I think it goes without saying that I'm not receiving any compensation for this post, these are just a few things that I love that I think you'd love too, however I'd happily be sponsored by any of these brands, because I love them - hint hint).
So first up, some yoga gear/work out gear (pictured above).
1. A Jade yoga mat, that's right! For my birthday Inspector Climate bought me a new yoga mat (no more hole-y one for me!). Jade yoga mats are eco-friendly, made in the USA, and supposedly last forever (I've only used mine for three days but oh boy, is it a pleasure to do yoga on).
2. Inner Waves pants. I've written about these yoga pants before. But they're spectacular, made from organic cotton in the USA, feel soft and comfy on, and don't cling to me in places that nothing should cling (ahem, the vicinity of the crotch). They're more affordable than almost any other yoga pants I've seen, I could go on. But I'm holding myself back...just... I wish I could get you a pair, I do!
3. The Patagonia Women's Racer back tank - my grandmother bought me this shirt while we were in the US and seriously, it's good. It's not super tight around my belly so I don't feel self-conscious when we're doing crazy twisting poses and I get belly folds (everyone gets belly folds right? right?!). It's not boobalicious, and it doesn't ride up into my face when I'm doing down dogs.
4. I've had my urban ears (photo below directly from their website) for more than a year, but I didn't fully appreciate them until I flew with them internationally. I have a truly small head. Like seriously, it's small people. Those plane headphones NEVER fit me and I end up having to kind of hold them on my head - now that might be all right for a flight where you watch one movie. But on the 15.5 hours of straight flying, I want to be able to, you know, not hold my head phones on. I love my urban ears. Plus, they're in super fun colours (like yellow), and I dig that.
So in my perfect world, I'd send you all each of these items and scream like Oprah about my favoooourite thiiiiiings. Thank you for sticking by me this year, I so appreciate it!
