Echuca bound.

A couple of weekend ago, Inspector Climate and I spent the weekend in Echuca. I've now lived in Australia for nearly six years, and I hadn't seen the Murray River. I felt like that was sinful. So for those you non-Australians, Echuca is basically directly north of Melbourne and is on the world's sixth largest river, The Murray, which forms the border between Victoria and New South Wales. With that geography lesson out of the way. Let's take a look at a few photos.

Not just for kids, yo. Although that being said, I think the captain of the ship thought that Inspector Climate and I were teenagers because we were travelling with Mrs. Climate. The captain said to Mrs Climate, "they get so much more fun to travel with at this age, don't they"...awkward.

A cute little paddle steamer with a very cute door.

We drove a few miles down river to check out a weir. Inspector Climate says hello!

Pretty river sunsets.

Canola.

Self explanatory no? Well, depending on what country you're in.

  2. It looks beautiful there!! I'm glad you were able to finally see the river and share it with the rest of us :)
So are those real flip flops on the thong tree? Do people keep adding to it? There is a gum wall (I can't remember which state) in the US and people just keep adding their chewed gum to it. Nasty!

  3. My boyfriend is from that area, so I have heard many stories of adventures on the Murray! The last one I heard was about a bachelor party, and let me tell you, Aussie bachelor parties sound crazy even when they are held in the middle of nowhere on a river.

  10. Gorgeous photos! It's been ages since I've been to Echuca - maybe I should keep it in mind for the next random roadtrip I take with the Chef.

  11. Argh, blogger/google drives me crazy with its failure to load blogs and its predisposition towards eating comments. I can't remember what I just wrote but I'm sure it was insanely witty (and said comment will probably appear by magic just after I post this one).

Anyway, the pics from your weekend away are gorgeous and I'm glad you've finally seen the Murray. Are there any other famous sights you haven't been yet that you think you ought?
