NaBloPoMo Day 24: My 66th cheese!

A couple of weeks ago, I entered a giveaway from the Gastrology blog to win a food session at David Jones. And I won! I, naturally, picked cheese session and so my friend and I on Friday went to David Jones to learn about cheese.

After several mix ups and a wait of 45 minutes it became clear that the session wasn't going to happen. David Jones (which for those of you outside of Australia, it's a department store) was very apologetic and gave us each a cheese platter to enjoy. Which we did.

They even gave us some wine. I thought they were going to leave my friend with the bottle which would have been very nice, but instead they just left us with a glass (or two, they gave me glass of wine even though I don't drink).

I tried a new cheese - Persian Feta. The company Yarra Valley Dairy that was supposed to be holding the session felt so awful for the mixup that they promised to send me a hamper of goodies as compensation - hopefully some new cheese that I haven't tried!

Anyway, it was kind of an adventure. One of those days where you set out on a simple quest and then the simplest pleasures of hanging out with a good friend and joking around is so much more fun than the quest itself. If that makes any sense?

  1. I went to a local cheese maker here yesterday and she let us sample all her cheeses. I have to severely beat my coworkers for not telling me about here until 1 week before I leave!! I only walked out with 3 varieties of her cheese but I'm about 101% positive I'll be going back tomorrow :D Can't wait to see what's in your goody hamper!

  2. not getting the session sounds a bit disappointing, but it looks like you made the most of the day anyway! and i've just read the facts you have on the side, and i love men with peculiar noses too, haha. that's so strange, and i don't think i've ever met a person who feels that way (or admits to it). x

  5. I love that you took the lack of session so well. I would have been disappointed.

The cheese platter sounds amazing though! I love cheese :)

  7. Any cheese is good cheese! Do you get to go back and do the actual session though?
