Reading: Fahrenheit 451

This week I read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and I was kind of surprised how much I absolutely LOVED IT. I had no idea what I was getting into starting this book. Only that the library kept it in the "science fiction" section which did not bode well for it (or so I thought).

Fahrenheit 451 is about a version of the future where books are illegal and people who own them and read them have their houses burned down by firemen.

The government banned books after the public stopped having the patience to read anything longer than a blurb or a comic book. After they stopped asking why and only wanted to enjoy life. Didn't want to experience anything sad and built rooms that had tv screens on three of the four walls and called them "their family and friends"...

This all sounds so familiar to me...like...oh, you know...OUR SOCIETY.

Anyway, I loved the book. It's a really quick read.

On an unrelated note - Have a lovely weekend and enjoy some very cute animals.

  1. I love Ellen and I love cute pet videos...this made my day! (Also, I remember reading Farenheit 451 for school and enjoying it. Ray Bradbury is on the Canadian reading curriculum...not sure for the States).

  5. Deidre....
I love, love, love Ray Bradbury!! But not for his writing, I'm afraid. My Dad and sister love Ray Bradbury's work!! No. I love, love, love Ray Bradbury for a different reason. One of his quotes on writing!! Because he said this.
"You fail only if you stop writing." --Ray Bradbury
See? I am not a failure in life--despite having feel like it--because I've never, ever, ever, ever stopped writing!! I may have quit living for over one decade. But I never stopped writing!! And I never intend to!! Thank-you, Ray Bradbury!! ;-D
Sorry. Now, on to reading this post.... ;)
