I am very guilty of using pet names, although I prefer to think of them as terms of endearment. My husband is "lovey." My daughter is "precious sweet one" and my son is "shmoo." These are the names that accompany hugs and generally are another way of saying "I love you."

I've never cared for babe - it sounds like something a player would say. However, I do think nicknames are cute and sweet. Just another way of showing affection.

I've never been a big one for nicknames (never really had one and don't often use other people's) and I've never been much for pet names with my boyfriend either, until my most recent ex. It started as a joke, calling each other 'Pet' but eventually it stuck and it got to the point where I was worried it would slip out in front of friends or family, but we split up, so it was OK. ;)

I don't mind being called babe or any other generic term of endearment...(warning: this will sound pathetic)...it'd be nice to have someone who feels that way about me again. *sigh*
